Itinerary for Showcase 4

YEAR 4 SOSE: ANCIENT GREECE
Our Year 4 students took us on a journey back in time to ancient Greece at our recent showcase. They shared insights into the daily life of people during that period, covering topics like clothing, leisure activities, trading, and everyday routines.
They explained what ancient Greeks wore, how they spent their free time, and the importance of trading in their society. They conveyed a clear understanding of life in ancient Greece. This helped the audience grasp the culture and customs of the ancient civilization.
Their showcase demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of history. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to share what they've been learning in their SOSE class and to inspire curiosity about the past.
YEAR 5 SCIENCE: THE EFFECT OF HOUSEHOLD SUBSTANCES ON POND MICROORGANISMS
Our Year 5 students took on a fascinating experiment that piqued their interest at our recent student showcase. After much brainstorming, they settled on the topic "The Effect of Household Substances on Pond Microorganisms." This project became their focus for about a month leading up to the showcase.
Despite facing a few challenges along the way, such as errors in their initial attempts, they persevered and finally achieved their objectives. They carefully planned and executed their experiment following the scientific method, documenting their observations and drawing conclusions based on their findings.
They not only completed a challenging project but also identified who could benefit from their research. It was a proud moment for them and a testament to their dedication and scientific curiosity.
YEAR 6 THAI: THAI FOLK SONGS
In a delightful students showcase, our Year 6 students took center stage with a musical performance that left everyone smiling. The showcase centered around singing, with the first part featuring the students introducing themselves through song. Each student brought their unique personality to the performance, creating a lively and engaging start.
The second part of the showcase added an extra twist of fun. Students sang without scripts, with a special challenge – ending each sentence with the same consonant sound chosen by parents, fondly dubbed "LAMALEELA." This playful element added a touch of spontaneity to the performance, showcasing the students' quick thinking and musical skills.
Overall, the showcase was a wonderful celebration of music and creativity, showcasing the talents and camaraderie of our Year 6 students.
YEAR 7 ENGLISH: SCIENCE FICTION GENRE (WHAT IT IS AND WHY WE SHOULD READ IT)
In their recent showcase presentation, our Year 7 students explored science fiction literature and why it's worth diving into. They explained that science fiction is a genre of stories that imagine futuristic or alternative worlds, often with advanced technology or space exploration.
During their presentation, they introduced famous science fiction books by renowned authors and provided summaries of each, sparking curiosity among their audience. Additionally, the students delved into the history of science fiction, tracing its roots and evolution over time.
Their presentation not only introduced the genre to the audience but also highlighted the imaginative possibilities and thought-provoking themes found within science fiction literature.
YEAR 7-11 BIOLOGY: HARMFUL EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL
In a thought-provoking presentation, students from Years 7 to 11 tackled the serious topic of alcohol and its detrimental effects on the human body and behavior. With clear explanations and visuals, they highlighted how alcohol can harm various organs and systems.
Moreover, the students shed light on the social implications of alcohol consumption, emphasizing its negative impact on relationships, mental health, and overall well-being. They effectively conveyed the importance of making informed choices regarding alcohol consumption.
By addressing this important issue, the students demonstrated their awareness and concern for the health and safety of themselves and their peers. Their presentation served as a powerful reminder of the importance of responsible behavior and the consequences of alcohol misuse.
YEAR 8 MATHS: VOLUME OF SHAPES AND HOW IT CAN BE APPLIED IN REAL LIFE
In an engaging demonstration of practical math skills, Year 8 students delved into the concept of volume and its real-life applications at the recent showcase. The students enthusiastically showcased their understanding of volume by calculating the amount of water needed to fill various shapes and containers.
The experiment involved measuring the volume of water displaced when students submerged their hands. It was discovered that the right hand displaced more water than the left. This was attributed to the fact that the student was right-handed and used their right hand more frequently, resulting in greater muscle mass.
Through these hands-on activities, students not only grasped the mathematical concept of volume but also gained insights into how it relates to everyday experiences. The showcase highlighted the practical relevance of mathematics in understanding the world around us.
YEAR 8 & 9 MANDARIN: POETRY RECITATION
At the recent Student Showcase Emma (Y9) and Shane (Y8) presented a Mandarin poem recounting the legendary tale of Mulan. Their confident recitation showcased the language skills they'd honed in their Mandarin classes.
With clear pronunciation and expressive delivery, Emma and Shane transported their audience into the captivating narrative of Mulan's bravery and determination. Their performance not only highlighted their linguistic skills but also celebrated the rich heritage of Chinese culture.
Emma and Shane's performance serves as an inspiring example of the enriching experiences offered by language education, fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation among students.
