CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR SRINAKARIN CAMPUS MARCH 2024

We're pleased to provide an update on the construction progress at our Srinakarin Campus. The development has been proceeding smoothly, with significant milestones achieved.

Inside the main building, various aspects including flooring, ceiling, lighting, air-conditioning, doors and windows, painting, sound system, and alarm system installation have been successfully completed, enhancing functionality and aesthetics.

Outside, substantial improvements have been made to the surroundings. The concreting of the area surrounding the school building has been finished, providing well-structured roads and car parks for students, staff, and visitors, improving accessibility and traffic flow.

Progress has also been made in outdoor spaces, with the leveling of the soccer field and playground behind the main building, paving the way for landscaping to create greenery and recreational areas.

Looking ahead, interior work is scheduled to begin soon, bringing us closer to completing the entire project.

We appreciate the collaborative efforts of our team and contractors, ensuring the project progresses according to plan. Thank you for your continued support and patience throughout this construction process.

We are thrilled to share the outstanding accomplishment of one of our former students, Andrea, who has recently graduated from Assumption University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This momentous achievement highlights Andrea's dedication and hard work and serves as a testament to the nurturing environment of St. Mark's that fosters academic excellence and personal growth.

Andrea's journey traces back to her early days at St. Mark's, where she started her educational voyage from Kindergarten through Grade 10. Andrea showcased exceptional diligence and commitment to her studies throughout her time with us, consistently achieving high scores in the IGCSE examinations. Her academic prowess was evident even then, laying a solid foundation for her future endeavors.

    PREP ENGLISH: COMPLETING SENTENCES

In our recent Prep English class, students had a blast completing sentences with words they thought would make sense to complete the sentences. Instead of using pen and paper, our teachers got creative with markers and whiteboards, making learning interactive and fun.

The sentences were designed to spark discussions and deepen their understanding. Students had to think carefully about which word to use, improving their vocabulary and critical thinking skills.

It was amazing to see our prep students engaged and actively participating. This interactive approach not only boosts academic performance but also fosters a love for language learning.

YEAR 2 MANDARIN: CONVERSATIONS IN THE LIBRARY

In Year 2 Mandarin class, students explored vocabularies tailored for engaging discussions in library settings, enhancing their ability and understanding.

Students engaged themselves in various phrases essential for conversations in libraries and bookstores like simple greetings and discussions about borrowing books and exploring stories.

They learned vocabulary terms ranging from "library" (图书馆 - túshū guǎn) to "bookstore" (书店 - shūdiàn), ensuring students could confidently express their thoughts in Mandarin within these settings. They also practiced expressions like "borrow books" (借书 - jièshū) and "bookshelf" (书架 - shūjià), enriching their ability to communicate effectively.

Through interactive activities, students enhanced their skills to engage in conversations and express their opinions on various topics using new Mandarin vocabulary.

YEAR 3 THAI: ROI KAEW & ROI KLONG READING

In this week's Thai lesson, our Year 3 students studied Roi Kaew and Roi Klong Reading. They read the story 'โลกเเสนสวย ชีวิตเเสนสุข' using both reading techniques, which tells them about the beauty of nature.

ร้อยเแก้ว (Roi Kaew): Roi Kaew involves reading composed words with emphasis on pronunciation. The rhythm is adjusted to suit the story being read to the listener, thereby emotionally involving them.

ร้อยกลอง (Roi Klong): Roi Klong is read in a lyrical manner, where it is read aloud in accordance with accents of high, low, heavy, light, long, and short, creating a melody reminiscent of music. It emphasizes clear and appropriate sounds, with a focus on rhyme, rhythm, style, and melody in line with the desired characteristics of the poem, akin to singing.

This lesson helped our students distinguish between reading composed words and reading melodiously. Students can improve their language skills by understanding the principles of correct reading in Thai.

YEAR 10 MATHS: INTRODUCTION TO CALCULUS

In preparation for their study of the demanding Mathematics Methods ATAR course next year, the year 10 students have been completing the preliminary course. One key component in this course is an introduction to calculus, including the concept of antidifferentiation. During this lesson, the students were introduced to the idea that antidifferentiation is simply the inverse operation of differentiation.

After observing the pattern within the process, they were given the general rule, as well as an opportunity to see its application in a variety of different circumstances. Following this, the students were given the opportunity to complete a number of questions independently, with an explanation following their attempt to confirm their understanding of the concept. This all took place in a small, relaxed classroom where students were encouraged to interact positively with each other and their teacher to optimize the learning experience.
