PRE-PREP ENGLISH
Our pre-prep students had a wonderful time in English class this week!
Students practiced reading common words we see every day. It's amazing to see them recognize these words and become more confident readers! They also read through their reading books, getting lost in the stories.
In one of their activities, students worked on putting together picture books. They had a blast arranging pictures and telling their own stories through them.
They also have spelling practice where they spell out words, taking them one letter at a time and writing it on their small board.
It's been a joy to see our pre-prep students engage with language and literacy in such creative ways. Every word they read, every story they explore, and every picture they create is a step towards becoming confident learners.
YEAR 2 SCIENCE: SOUND
Our Year 2 students have been having a blast in science class, diving into the world of sounds! With hands-on activities and DIY projects, they're learning all about how sounds are made using different instruments and everyday objects.
In class, the students have been experimenting with plucking, beating, shaking, and blowing into various objects to create different sounds. They're discovering that sound is all around us, from the wind rustling through the trees to the beats of their favorite tunes.
One cool activity had the students making their musical instruments using stuff like cans with stones and bottles filled with water. It's been a hit! They've been getting creative and working together to find just the right sounds.
Not only are they learning about sound, but they're also picking up teamwork and problem-solving skills along the way. It's been awesome to see them working together and having fun while they learn.
With their homemade instruments, our Year 2 students are exploring sound in a whole new way.
YEAR 6 SCIENCE: TEMPERATURE AND ILLUMINANCE
The Year 6 students used special devices called dataloggers to measure the temperature and how bright it was (illumination) in different parts of the school. They checked the basketball court and outside the primary school building. They found the average temperature and brightness in each place and then compared the results. This helped them understand how the conditions varied between the two areas.
By doing this activity, the students applied what they learned in class to a real-life situation, connecting theory with practice in a hands-on way. They gained valuable experience in collecting and analyzing data, which deepened their understanding of scientific concepts and their relevance in everyday life. This activity helped them see the practical side of science and how it can be used to understand the world around them.
YEAR 9 PHYSICS: CIRCUITS
In an exciting series of experiments, our Year 9 class recently explored electrical circuits. With hands-on activities, students learned about voltage, current, and resistance while staying safe with electricity.
Under the guidance of their teacher, students set up circuits and tinkered with different components. They adjusted things like wires and batteries to see how they affected the flow of electricity. Through trial and error, they figured out how everything worked together.
