OUTSTANDING IGCSE RESULTS - JUNE 2023 EXAMINATION SERIES

Congratulations on the exceptional achievements of St. Mark's students in their recent June 2023 IGCSE examinations. It's truly inspiring to see their dedication and hard work pay off with remarkable results. The high A* and A grades, especially in Mathematics, Mandarin, and English, reflect not only the students' commitment but also the excellent teaching and guidance provided by the faculty.

The outstanding performance of our top scorers, achieving 96% in Mathematics, 98% in Mandarin, and 89% in English, is truly remarkable and speaks volumes about the quality of education at St. Mark's. These results highlight the effectiveness of the teaching staff in nurturing a positive and conducive learning environment.

The two main factors identified by parents, teachers, and students – the care and attention from the teaching staff and the motivated and attentive learning culture within smaller class settings – undoubtedly contribute significantly to the students' success. The heart of care exhibited by the faculty, combined with the focused and engaged learning environment, sets a solid foundation for the students' academic excellence.

St. Mark's students are not only excelling academically but are also being prepared for future challenges and opportunities. CELEBRATING MOTHER'S DAY WITH HANDCRAFTED LOVE: A RECAP OF OUR STUDENTS' CREATIVE CARD-MAKING

Last Friday, August 11, our students came together to create something truly special. With Mother's Day on the horizon, they channeled their creativity into crafting heartfelt handmade cards.

Using vibrant paper, markers, and their boundless imagination, students of all ages participated with enthusiasm. Each card became a canvas for their appreciation and love for the maternal figures in their lives.

The cards made were more than just pieces of paper; they were heartfelt gestures that carry the warmth of the students' feelings.

YEAR 1 THAI: SCRAMBLED WORDS AND SENTENCES

We wanted to share a delightful highlight from our Year 1 Thai class. Our students recently engaged in a hands-on language activity - Scrambled Words and Sentences.

In this exercise, each group received Thai word flashcards with jumbled words. Working together, they deciphered the words, unveiling a sense of achievement and teamwork. The excitement in the room was palpable as they reconstructed sentences from these words, showcasing their growing understanding of the language's structure.

Our dedicated Thai teacher deserves applause for fostering this interactive learning. This activity is nurturing not only their vocabulary but also their ability to express thoughts in coherent sentences.

YEAR 3 MATHS: ODDS, EVENS, AND NUMBER ORDER

In our recent Year 3 Maths class, our students have been busy exploring the world of numbers, focusing on odd and even numbers, as well as the art of comparing and ordering them.

In the past few days, our Year 3 students embarked on a hands-on journey into numbers. Equipped with sets of number cards thoughtfully provided by their teachers, they dove into activities aimed at understanding odd and even numbers. Through interactive discussions, they learned that odd numbers can't be divided into pairs without a remainder, while even numbers can.

But the learning didn't stop there. Our young learners took on the challenge of comparing and ordering numbers. Using the same number cards and the numbers displayed on the board, they practiced arranging and comparing numbers, finding the lowest and greatest among them.

YEAR 4 SCIENCE: VOLUME OF LIQUIDS

In our Year 4 science class, students tackled the big question: Do liquids have a fixed or definite volume? Armed with syringes and water, they experimented and explored whether liquids possess a fixed volume, or if they have a more adaptable, changeable nature.

In the class experiment, students filled the syringe with water, and slowly pushed the plunger down, forcing the water out drop by drop. Surprisingly, the water obediently complied, maintaining its volume as it was expelled from the syringe.

Next, they reversed the process. As they pulled the plunger upwards, the water climbed into the syringe, once again preserving its volume as it filled the syringe.

The teacher explained that liquids indeed possess a property known as a "definite volume." This means that regardless of the container's shape or size, a liquid maintains its volume, adapting to the space provided. In the Year 4 students' experiment, the water seemed to be quite content with maintaining its volume, whether it was in the syringe or poured into a glass.

Year 4's science discussion on liquids and their volume was a journey of discovery. Through hands-on experimentation, students found that liquids, like water, indeed have a definite volume. This understanding not only broadened our knowledge of basic scientific concepts but also highlighted the remarkable behaviors of substances we encounter daily.

YEAR 8 THAI MUSIC: LAO SOMDET SONG

In Year 8's music class, students embraced traditional Thai music by playing the captivating "Lao Somdet Song." Using Thai cymbals and drums, they skillfully created harmonious melodies, delving into the cultural richness of Thailand's musical heritage.

The "Lao Somdet Song" resonated through the classroom as the students skillfully struck the Thai cymbals and drums, creating a harmonious blend of tones.

Beyond the melodies, this activity also deepened our students' understanding of cultural diversity and the importance of preserving and celebrating heritage.

CELEBRATING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS AT THE SIAM INTERNATIONAL MATH AND SCIENCE OLYMPICS!

We are thrilled to announce the remarkable achievements of our students at the recent SIAM International Math and Science Olympics (SIMSO) held last Saturday. The awarding ceremony, held on Sunday, marked a momentous occasion as our talented students were recognized for their exceptional performance and dedication to mathematics and science.

**Usanisa Shines Bright: Gold and First Runner-Up in Math, Gold and Champion in Science**
Usanisa, a remarkable student from Year 3, showcased her exceptional aptitude in both mathematics and science by securing the prestigious SIMSOLVER trophy. She not only emerged as the gold medalist in both the math and science categories but also claimed the impressive title of First Runner-Up in the math competition. She continued to showcase her prowess by securing the champion and gold award in the science category, reinforcing her reputation as a consistent performer across disciplines. Her dedication and hard work have truly made her a shining star in this international competition.

**Pariychat's Triumph in Year 4: Gold Medalist and Second Runner-Up in Math, Silver in Science**
Pariychat, a student from Year 4, demonstrated remarkable skills by clinching the gold award in the math category. Her outstanding performance led her to secure the esteemed title of Second Runner-Up in the overall rankings. She was also awarded the silver medal in the science category. Pariychat's accomplishments reflect her dedication to academic excellence and her commitment to pushing her limits.

**Sirasilp's Outstanding Achievement: Second Runner-Up and Gold in Math, Bronze in Science**
Another noteworthy achievement was made by Sirasilp, who not only secured the Second Runner-Up position in the competition but also earned a gold award in mathematics. His commitment to his studies and his proficiency in the subject matter have undoubtedly set him apart as a talented mathematician. Sirasilp also achieved a bronze award in the science category, further highlighting his diverse talents and abilities.

The accomplishments of these students not only reflect their personal dedication and hard work but also speak volumes about the quality of education and support they receive at our institution. We take pride in nurturing young minds and empowering them to excel on the global stage.
