STUDENTS' SHOWCASE #2 (3 MARCH)
YEAR 3 THAI: UNSCRAMBLING WORDS
Year 3 students presented on the topic of unscrambling Thai words in their Thai class students' Showcase. Our students have been working hard to develop their language skills and increase their vocabulary through challenging word games.
During the showcase, our students presented their projects and activities, demonstrating their understanding of Thai vocabulary and grammar. They worked in groups to unscramble Thai words and phrases, practicing their spelling and recognition of the Thai alphabet as well as demonstrating their understanding of Thai word order by unscrambling sentences.
YEAR 7 SCIENCE: CHEMICAL REACTIONS
Our Year 7 class presented on the topic of chemical reactions in the recent students' Showcase. Our students have been learning about the different types of chemical reactions and the role they play in our everyday lives.
During the showcase, our students presented their projects and experiments, demonstrating their understanding of chemical reactions. Combining copper, calcium, and nickel produces a chemical reaction that creates precipitation. Another student demonstrated a hydrogen test or the so-called "POP" test by diluting the hydrochloric acid and adding the magnesium strips that soon form into hydrogen gas and tested it by heating another test tube and once the flame/heat comes in contact with the gas, it blew out and you will hear the "POP".
We hope that their projects have inspired them to continue exploring the world of science and chemistry.
YEAR 8 ENGLISH: COMPONENTS OF CREATIVE WRITING
In our recent students' Showcase, our Year 8 students presented on the topic of creative writing. Our students have been learning about the different components of creative writing, such as character development, plot, setting, etc.
During the Showcase, our students demonstrated their understanding of the different components and their ability to define them and give examples. They invited some parents to participate and define words as well.
We are incredibly proud of our students' hard work and creativity. We hope that their projects have inspired them to continue exploring the world of creative writing.
PRE-PREP ART: PIZZA PAPER CUTTING
Our Pre-Prep Art class had a fun pizza paper-cutting activity this week! This activity was a great opportunity for the students to practice their fine motor skills and creativity.
During the class, the children used scissors to cut paper into pizza slices. They then had the opportunity to use different art materials such as markers, crayons, and stickers to decorate their pizza slices as they pleased. This activity is not only fun, but it also helps the kids learn about shapes, colours, and how to use scissors safely.
As always, safety is our top priority. Teachers closely supervised the children during the activity to ensure that everyone is using the scissors safely and responsibly.
YEAR 2 MANDARIN: STORY READING
In Year 2 Mandarin class, students had a reading lesson this week. This lesson provided our Year 2 students with an opportunity to exercise their reading skills.
During the class, the teacher guided the students to read short Chinese articles, helping them to understand the words, and learn new vocabulary, and expressions. They were provided with relevant exercises and activities like reading in front of the whole class to help them consolidate what they have learned.
YEAR 4 PHYSICAL EDUCATION: DODGEBALL
Year 4 Physical Education class had a fun dodgeball activity this week! This activity was a great opportunity for our students to practice their coordination, agility, and teamwork.
During the class, the students were divided into teams and played a game of dodgeball. They learned how to throw, catch, and dodge the ball while trying to eliminate players from the other team. This activity is not only fun, but it also helps the children develop important physical skills, such as hand-eye coordination and reflexes, while encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship.
Our P.E. teacher closely supervised the children during the activity to ensure that everyone plays safely and follows the rules.
YEAR 10 MATHS: INVERSE PROPORTIONALITY
In our Year 10 recent Maths class, they covered the concept of inverse proportionality and its various applications.
They discussed how inverse proportionality can be represented graphically and explored the effects of changes in the constant k and the starting values of x and y on the relationship between the two quantities.
Finally, they learned about how inverse proportionality can be useful in problem-solving. By understanding the relationship between two quantities and knowing one of the values, they can calculate the other value using the formula y=k/x.
