STMARKS NEWSLETTER 13 (18 JULY 2022)
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - PARENT ORIENTATION 2022- YEAR 1, YEAR 7-12
Semester 1 of the new 2022-2023 academic year is quickly approaching and St. Mark’s faculty and staff are looking forward to the beginning a new academic year.
Since social and academic development is best served by close cooperation between the school and our parent community, we would like to invite all parents of our Year 1 and Year 7-12 to join us for a time of orientation on Wednesday, 3 August from 9:30 am-12:00 pm.
Parents will become familiar with their child’s teachers, their daily routine and program, and have any questions answered among other things. We strongly encourage every parent to join this important event. Please register using the Jot form link below:

In addition, St. Mark's is privileged to introduce Mr. Callum Cowell, director of CELT, from The University of Western Australia (UWA), one of Australia Group of 8 universities, joining us as one of the speakers at the upcoming Parent Orientation. Mr. Cowell has worked for over 25 years in International Higher Education and Training both in Australia and abroad. He is representing UWA and has a wealth of information for parents who may be considering universities in Australia as an option for their child/children’s tertiary studies.
As St. Mark's is offering the Australian ATAR program to our Year 11-12 students, transition into Australian universities can never be any easier. The ATAR program is rigorous and is recognised by top universities worldwide. On this note, top universities in Singapore such as National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University also recognise ATAR qualifications, realising the quality and educational standard of this program.
If you have any questions, please contact the School Office or via the School LINE group.
SRINAKARIN CAMPUS UPDATE - JULY 2022
It is with our delight to inform you that construction at Srinakarin campus has been progressing well to 60% during the past month, which is a significant progress.
We have completed concreting the 7th floor last week, a work that marks the final major concrete structure for our school building.
On the building's interior, the partitioning of brick walls and plastering are concurrently progressing from the second to the fourth floor. Installation of electrical conduits, water pipes, and drains for toilets, sinks, and air-conditioning are also progressing throughout the building.
On the outer periphery of the building, construction of 6-metre wide car ramps connecting road on the ground to underground car parks have also finished on target.
ENGLISH CLASS: SKIT
Developing skills in language expression through acting is part of the English language learning at St. Mark's. An integral part of our Summer Program ensures that students continue to have the opportunity to develop effective skills in verbal communication and expression. Through the theme "From Pasture to Plate" our teachers' assigned students to work in groups on food-related short skits and video-record their stories. Here are 3 short skits performed by our primary students. We hope you enjoy their performances.
CHINESE DUMPLINGS
2022 Summer School theme "From Pasture to Plate" provided the students with many opportunities to learn about the journey and process of food. While they gained knowledge and developed their vocabulary, the students found the best part of this learning was the hands-on cooking experiences where they could participate in the cooking process and taste the delicious product of their own work.
CHURROS CON CHOCOLATE
As a part of their summer school cooking activity, our students learned how to make the classic Spanish dessert, Churros con chocolate. Our students made their choux pastry from scratch, piped it with a star-shaped nozzle into long straight or curled fingers, fried it in oil, and coated it in a sugar and cinnamon mixture. In the end, everyone enjoyed eating this warm and gooey, crispy and chocolaty pastry.
SUMMER SCHOOL LAST DAY

Marking the end of our Summer School Program, our teachers prepared different activities for our students to enjoy. They started off with relay games in the morning where they had a friendly competition with each other. Followed by giving of certificates where our students were recognised for their efforts and lastly, they had the opportunity to make their D.I.Y pizza and had some smoothies.
Our students have surely gained experience in making not just food, dialogues, or games strategy but friendship and teamwork all throughout the program
It was indeed a summer to remember!
We hope to see everyone again next year.
PIZZA MAKING ACTIVITY
RELAY GAMES

As developing teamwork skills are an integral part of working together collaboratively, what better way to complete the Summer School than with fun and games! Our teachers wrapped up the Summer Program with relay games where the students applied their teamwork skills to score for their group. It was tiring but a memorable activity for everyone.
